If there is one thing we can all agree on right now, it’s that we are doing everything as parents to keep ourselves and our family members healthy. This season in particular has been an awfully snotty one and it seems like there are extra germs floating around.
As much as we would love to be able to deep clean our homes on a daily basis, it’s just not possible because we’re chasing around little ones who make mess after mess, after mess! This means, that just like everything else on our never-ending to-do lists, we must be tactful about how and what we are conquering each day. This brings us to germ hot spot.
Germ Hot Spots Hiding in Your Home
As much as we don’t want to admit it: there are areas around our homes that are germ hot spots and breeding grounds for bacteria and viruses that we don’t want to be anywhere near our loved ones. Don’t worry though, we’ve got you covered! If you only have a few minutes to clean each day, pay special attention to these germ hot spots to keep your family healthy during this cold, flu, and RSV season.
1. Remote Control
Everyone always seems to be searching for and touching the remote control for the television. Because of this, they are a magnet for both dust and germs that we most likely can't see with the naked eye. But, we want you to know that they are there! In order to avoid any sickness that your child may have brought home from school after they went directly for the remote when coming in the house, wipe these down daily with a disinfectant wipe. Don't forget to really get in between those buttons!
2. Toothbrush Holder
Raise your hand if when you do a quick wipe-down of the bathroom, you overlook the toothbrush holder, seeking out more germ infested areas like the toilet and bath tub. You are not alone in this! However, we can bet that this little tidbit of information will never let you overlook it again: the toothbrush holder is one of the most germ infested areas of your ENTIRE house. For real. What to do to keep it clean? Purchase a dishwasher safe toothbrush holder and make sure you throw it in the top rack of your dishwasher to clean once a week.
3. The Mail
Think about how long it takes for your mail or packages to get to your address. It has to pass through an awful lot of hands! Now, we're not saying that you need to be wearing gloves every time you come face to face with someone delivering letters or packages, but washing your hands as soon as you bring them in your home is the way to go!
4. Phones
Think about it: we touch our phones constantly. Our kiddos with their sweet, yet germy, sticky fingers touch our phones constantly. And even though we are always encouraging our loved ones to wash their hands frequently, we have to make sure we are doing the same for our phones. Disinfecting wipes to the rescue!
5. Bathroom Sink Fixtures
We mentioned those toothbrush holders earlier, now we want to make sure that you aren't forgetting something else pretty germy nearby: your bathroom sink fixtures. Wipe those suckers down as much as you possibly can because it is the first thing that your family touches after their hands are clean.
